Gone But Not Forgotten…

So you have the perfect shade of eyeshadow that you have been cos buying for years and suddenly, the company has decided to stop producing it.  A very frustrating predicament to be sure, but I have discovered at least one source that you can tap while looking for that now elusive cosmetic product.

Estee Lauder has a program called Gone But Not Forgotten to help you reunite with your favorite products.  The program includes all of the cosmetic companies under the Estee Lauder umbrella, including: Bobbi Brown, MAC and Clinique.  You simply call (800) 216-7173 to initiate your search.  Good Luck!

Anna Sui “Target’s” Discount Consumers…

It was announced yesterday that Detroit native, Anna Sui, will be producing a capsule collection for Target set to arrive in select stores from September 13th through October 17th.  Only one other designer, Alexander McQueen, has been asked to participate in Target’s Premiere “Designer Collaborations”.  As part of the collection, Sui was asked to identify a muse for the line:

“When I was in Asia last year, all the young girls kept asking me about the different locations in New York City where the characters from ‘Gossip Girl’ live,” Sui told WWD. “I liked the idea of creating a collection reflective of each characters’ style, sensibility and unique approach to fashion. By combining the elements of art, city, spirit, punk and glamour, we created a collection that exudes New York City fashion.”

Goth Vibrations…

Goth loligoth

As silly and strange as it seems, there’s a new fashion muse in town and it’s dark.  The Japanese fashion movement called Goth Lolita or Goth Loli—which evolved from the Lolita fashion movement dating back to the 1970’s in Japan—is showing it’s influence in fall 09’s fashion line up.  According to WWD.com several designers including Rodarte and Givenchy have been “bitten” by the Goth bug.

Unlike the western interpretation of Goth, Japanese Goth Loli’s are more of a cartoon version of a teenage witch and a frilly doll.

It’s certainly not my style, but now you have a reference point when you see a insurgence of the dark, immortal style.

Speaking of Being Bitten…

Ok this isn’t fashion related, but I feel the need to confess that I have been sucked in by the Twilight series.  I can’t help it, it’s like I’ve been bewitched!  I am not a big fan of vampire stories or anything associated with the genre—but I was at the library and it was sitting there—so I picked it up.

It has been 10 days and I have devoured three of the four, 500 page plus books and I am only 100 pages from completing the last 700 plus page book.  I know those of you who have read the series know what I mean when I say it has taken everything in me to tear myself away from the book.  Now that this post is complete, I am off to finish it off before my next appointment.  Don’t tell me what happens! 🙂

Be The Wonder Woman You Can Be…

Who says that comic books are only for nerds?  Fashion mogul Diane von Furstenberg has teamed with DC Comics to produce a limited edition comic based on the designer’s life.  Proceeds from the $25 comic benefit Vital Voices a nonprofit organization that trains emerging women leaders, who in turn pay it forward to their entrepreneurial sisters here and in 150 other countries.

In a feature in this month’s Marie Claire von Furstenberg also offers a surprising revelation:

“So my mother, she was in her early 20s; she was arrested and went to a concentration camp—she went to Auschwitz and other ones for 14 months.  And went she came back, she weighed 40 pounds".

Whose That Girl?

Did anyone see last night’s premiere of America’s Next Top Model?  I was shocked to see a young woman who was featured in a popular photo taken by The Sartorialist back in Feb. 2008 was the same woman on ANTM last night.  The 25 year old Kentucky native and aspiring Top Model, Celia, worked in the men’s department at Bergdorf Goodman’s in NYC.

Jennifer Aniston Paid 56k/wk For Her Hairdresser…

News just surfaced that celebrity stylist Chris McMillan was paid $56,000 per week to do Aniston’s hair while she was filming ‘Marley and Me’.  According to other celebrity stylist’s this fee isn’t out of line.  Fellow celebrity stylist Edward Tricomi defends the rate, "My days [at his salon] are more than $10,000," he admits. "It’s significant to walk out when you’re booking days like that." [NY Daily News]

That is one pricey week’s worth of blow outs!

Speaking of Hair…

According to the latest issue of Vogue, the newest trend in hair is the collar bone length.  It seems that Gisele Bündchen recently took the scissors to her own long mane (requiring a frantic call to and touch up by her hairdresser) and now some of the catwalks biggest names and Hollywood has followed suit.  Kate Moss, Helena Christensen, Christy Turlington, Gweneth Paltrow, Ann Hathaway and Ellen Pompeo have all been seen recently with a lighter look.

So now you know the story behind the scenes.

That’s it for this week.  Have a great weekend everyone!!  doll-with-white-back

Were The 2009 Collections More Diverse At NYFW?

Check out the statistics put together by the blog Jezebel on the diversity quotient for the NYFW runway models.  You may also be interested to know which designers did not cast one model of color–the results may surprise you.

Speaking of surprises, according to the Cut, rapper, former back up dancer and Britney’s babies daddy—Kevin Federline is said to be developing a line of children’s clothing.

“It’s a really tough business, I’m trying to take it seriously and make a quality product for kids but not have parents pay like $500 or something ridiculous for a pair of jeans," he told WWD.

I’ll let you leave your own punch line in the comments section below…

This Girl REALLY Need Help…

Folks are gasping at the site of Lindsay Lohan these days and not because of her substance abuse.  It seems that LiLo has a serious weight issue going on.  The two photos on the left are from May and June 2008 respectively and the last is her most recent photo–taken this month.

According to a story on Feb. 16th in the Huffington Post, Lohan was asked by US Weekly at NYFW about her weight loss and she said that it was “unintentional”

"I eat. I had my Big Mac yesterday from McDonald’s," she told Us Sunday at the Matthew Williamson NYC store opening. "I eat just as much as I always have."

The 22-year-old actress (who has raised eyebrows before for her skinny frame) said she thinks she has just been "working a lot." She said she also blames "stress … and lack of sleep when I travel."

Honestly, PLEASE eat a few of those Big Mac’s more often, you look unwell.

More Funny Fashion…

Do you remember the Pac Man themed fashions I posted on Halloween last year?  Well Giles Deacon didn’t disappoint during London Fashion Week with this zip-up party hat and the herculean proportions on the cropped jacket below.

While I’m at it, here’s a few doozies that are worth noting from NYFW.  Starting with these remarkably phallic ensembles.

The Cut, Clueless & Sexy Beijing

Now that all the holidays are over, I’ve been catching up on all that’s new in the fashion blog-o-sphere.  Here’s a sampling of what I found:

the cut–  00390m

NY Magazine’s fashion blog the cut had all sorts of interesting fashion news.

First, they delighted in speculation that Vogue editor, Anna Wintour may be the next French Ambassador for the Obama Administration.  Sounds a bit too far-fetched to me, but it doesn’t sound like the fashion world would be too sorry to see her go, according to the cut:

[T]he fashion world is buzzing over the rumor that Wintour might leave “with a guillotine glee akin to that which preceded the death of Marie Antoinette.”

No Sale, No Teenagers

In another bit of elitist news, there are reports that Versace storesversace refuse to put their merchandise on sale to dissuade the likes of us common folk and the more insidious demographic: teen girls.

“Our regular client was not queuing on January 3-4 in Milan or Rome but was on the slopes in St Moritz or on a boat in the Caribbean,” he said. “We want to offer a real luxury and not to open our doors to the consumption of young girls who can put the designer handbag of their dreams on their arm with less than 300 Euros. We are not interested in that.”

I for one was working with a client ( a lovely one at that) instead of cruising the Caribbean on Jan. 3rd and on the 4th, I was involved with something that Versace would deem blasphemous: grocery shopping!  I’m not sure I will be invited to a Versace party any time soon…

Are You Kidding?!100073162

And the last bit of news from the cut involves the indie- stylista- actress Chloë Sevigny.  In an interview for Esquire magazine, miss Sevigny states:

“I don’t really have any concept of how money works. I don’t know how much things cost. Like a BMW. Or a quart of milk. It’s embarrassing.”

Comments like that make me want to slap her silly.  But since it appears that she is already silly and I am not a violent person,  I will instead offer a standing invitation to come grocery shopping with me on any given Sunday.  Love you Chloë .

My New Fav: Sexy Beijing

So while I was catching up on all the new fashion blogger news, I visited Fashion nation and discovered this fantastic site called Sexy Beijing.  It’s an internet production based in Beijing, China that involves an American woman interviewing the Chinese people on topics involving: love, relationships, sex and women’s issues.

Channeling Carrie Bradshaw of Sex And The City, creator Anna Sophie Loewenberg, a.k.a. Su Fei, travels the city interviewing the Chinese people about the afore mentioned topics and in turn, brings us closer to a culture that many of us here in the West, have never seen.

In a video presently on the main page of her site, she interviews Chinese construction workers on their love lives and what qualities a good wife embodies.

Upon viewing the video, I was first struck by Anna Sophie’s fantastic Mandarin accent.  It was as though a local Chinese woman had taken over her body.  After living in China for a decade, she seems to have perfected a Mandarin accent.

I was also fascinated by how candid these men were in answering her questions.  The men in her piece were very open to share their opinions.

As a Western woman, my interest was piqued a couple of times when I learned that matchmakers were still commonly used in the country and by a reply from one of the workers who viewed beauty as useless.

When asked what was more important, looks or cooking skills, the man replied, “Cooking skills.  Good looks are useless right?  What good is beauty if I don’t eat well?”  Quite a polar opposite to American men don’tcha think?

I encourage you to check out her site for yourself.  To read an article about her from CNN, click here.

Have a great weekend everyone!

It consists of four color vignettes shot at night in New York City locations, including Times Square and Central Park. Each captures a specific color palette and group, from daywear to cocktail to evening. The ads will launch in the August issue of Vanity Fair.” WWD

Converse Comes to Target

look4-thmb.jpgThe discount retailer Target announced in a recent press release “its latest partnership with Converse, to offer One Star vintage-inspired lifestyle apparel and footwear exclusively at Target stores nationwide and at Target.com beginning in February[3rd] 2008.”  It goes on to say they will offer “exclusive lifestyle and vintage inspired contemporary sportswear collections for men and women, including denim, non-denim bottoms, knits, wovens, graphic tees, sweaters, dresses and outerwear. One Star footwear includes exclusive and limited-edition product for men, women, and children.”

In the outfit pictured, the highest item was $29.99 for the Lace Up Oxfords and the rest of the items were $24.99 or less.  During my brief review of the line, it appeared that the highest item was the Paper Bag Dress at $39.99.  (There were 41 pictures to review and I did not have the opportunity to open each one to check each individual price.)  There was also a Pencil Style Denim Skirt in Dark Wash for $26.99 that I think would be very practical for many people.

In my opinion, it looks like an interesting line of clothing.  I think the target demographic  for this collection is 25 and under, but there are certain pieces that would suit a 30 something on a casual day out.

To see more including a promotional video, click here for a link to their sneak peak.
