Bye-Bye “It” Bags

Say hello to the hottest new accessory for spring.

In a reversal of fortune for the high priced seasonal designer handbag, otherwise known at the “it” bag- bangles, bracelets and cuffs are all making a comeback this spring.

View Bangles

Seen stacked high and dancing on the arms of runway models, bracelets add a little personality to your overall look.  Although the price of some bracelets combined can cost just as much as a designer bag (think Hermès) stores like Forever 21 and H&M offer some of springs latest trends for a fraction of the price.

To get the runway look, why not use the above photos or pictures from your favorite fashion magazine, as a guide while shopping?  Here are a few other options I found online in a variety of price points.

Fashion Lesson #14 Signature Style

When you think of Anna Wintour’s style what do you think of first?  I think of her bob haircut. (It’s reported that she has had the cut since the age of 14.)  Karl Lagerfeld? Fingerless gloves and white starched high-collared shirts.  Finally, when I think of Coco Chanel, I think of pearls and the Little Black Dress.

So when it comes to your style, what is your signature look?  Is it an old locket that your mother gave you that you never take off?  Smartly tailored shirts? Killer heels?  When someone thinks about you, what comes to their mind first?  My only hope is that it is not overly sprayed hair, tapered acid washed jeans and blue eye shadow.

There’s a difference between a signature look that evolves with you over the years and just sticking with something that looked good on you two decades ago.

For me it has been long hair.  I’ve cut my hair over the years, but I seem to look best when I wear it long and usually with a lot of layers.  I also have a necklace that I have only taken off a handful of times over the past 5 1/2 years.

My suggestion for “discovering” your signature style is to think about what you love most about yourself or is meaningful to you.  Do you have killer legs?  Wear skirts or some wicked heels.  A swan-like neck?  Think of making necklaces your signature look.  If you were blessed with a tiny little waist, you could make belts your signature style.  If you have lovely delicate hands, keep your fingernails well groomed and polished; ditto for feet.  Another accessory that just about all of us can pull of is a hat.  As we saw at the London premier of Sex And The City, hats come in all shapes and sizes; there’s something for everyone.

So while you are going about your day today or when getting ready this weekend, think about your signature style or lack there of.  What do you want others to know about you when they see you?

Strike A Pose…

This stylish Yoga Bag is constructed from “recycled plastic bags picked from the trash heaps of a New Delhi slum. Rather than let them pile up in landfills, the bags are hand picked by women who are paid a fair wage in order to turn trash into high-style treasure. They’re made by an Indian non-profit company that employs and empowers 300 low-caste women who had no employment opportunities. Incredibly, no dyes are used to make the colorful patterns—instead layers of different color plastic bags are simply fused together.”

You never know what  you are going to get when you type this word into Google.  Maybe I’m in a strange mood, but I thought this video was funny.  Now I can’t get the song out of my head.  Please be aware that there is explicit language at the end of this video.

There’s just something about paisley that I love.  This bag from kate spade is no exception.

2008 Gap Design Editions Collection

This week you can find the 2008 special edition collection of designs by emerging American designers, Phillip Lim (3.1 Phillip Lim), Band of Outsiders’ Scott Sternberg, Michael Bastian, Philip Crangi and threeASFOUR’s Gabi Asfour, Adi Gil & Angela Donhauser.

All the designers were asked to participate in creating the 2008 special edition collection based on the classic white Gap shirt.  This year however, it wasn’t limited to Gap’s 35 year old icon.

Fans of Philip Crangi will find special edition jewelry to choose from in addition to the interpretations of the iconic white shirt.

Fellas, don’t you worry either, Michael Bastian has also designed a couple of shirts that you can get in on too.

Here are a few selections from the collection. (click on images for shopping details)

2008 is the second year that Gap has partnered with the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund to introduce the winners of the annual Vogue Fashion Fund competition to mainstream consumers.

Items from this collection will range in price from $35 to $88 and  will be available exclusively in flagship and top Gap adult stores in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Japan and online in the U.S. at gap.com.

To read more about this collection and the designers, click here or go to Gap online.

Indulge yourself…

Now this could be a combo of deal/indulgence/trend watch, but being that the prices are still pretty high, I decided it would fit best here.

free glitter text and family website at FamilyLobby.com

It’s Saturday, and I’m in a fluffy sort of mood.  No time to do much of a post today, so I hope this will suffice.  Have a great day!

I discovered a treasure trove today at ModCloth.com.  This is such a fun store!  Everything you see above I found yesterday on their site.  But if you see something you like, act fast.  Many of the items they sell are one of a kind.

Another fun thing about their store, is that they have a “Polyvore dressing room”.  That means that you can create your own outfits before you buy them via Polyvore (yes, the same site I used to create my post today).  Get those fingers movin’ quick, your treasure is waiting. 🙂
