Happy Feet!

ACORN Footwear Review

Product:  ACORN footwear

TribalThong

Pitch:  “Comfort on Earth.  Acorn footwear offers unsurpassed comfort, indoor/outdoor soles, fresh styling and the bright colors that women want for spring and summer.”

The Real Deal:  ACORN offers a wide variety of remarkably stylish footwear that range NewSpaThongfrom—$75 for their outdoor shoes to $35 slippers—that are certain to make your feet happy this summer.

The company sent me the  New Spa Thong  similar to the one seen here on the right.  This slipper came from their Vegan collection and is registered with the International Vegan Society.  Further, they are made without any animal by-products or animal testing.  They also came packaged in recyclable materials.

When I wore them, they were very soft and comfortable.  I had my 7 year-old son try them on and he said, “It’s like walking on a soft bed mom.”  The non-slip indoor/outdoor sole is an added bonus when you want to run out and get the morning paper too.

Those of you who have a hard time finding your size in footwear, will be pleased to see that ACORN carries a wide variety of sizes including wide-width.  The only thing I don’t like about the thong’s is that they rub against my big toe.  This may just be my feet, or the incredibly thick foam cushion that they are made of.  I hope that after a few weeks, they loosen up a bit.

Bottom Line:  I would rate these slippers an 8.5 for comfort and give ACORN footwear a 9.5 style rating.

Product Review: Däv Rain Products

Dav AboutProduct: Däv rain gear;  including umbrellas, boots, shoes, sneakers, handbags and socks for women and children.

Company’s Claim:  Däv product’s aim to offer hip and sophisticated rain apparel using special materials such as a stretch panels and a comfortable PORON® footbed to create a fashionable ensemble durable enough for anything the weather throws at you.

Fashion Quotient:  With a dazzling array of boots and shoes to choose from, Däv has every fashion personality covered.  From downtown trendsetters to the sassy-cowgirl—including your little fashion-bug-in-training—you’re sure to find something to suit your fancy.

Däv offers really unique umbrella’s to coordinate with your boots as well.

Dav bootsdav umbrella

Quality:  Däv sent me a pair of Karma Victoria rain boots and a Starburst umbrella similar to the one above in cream/black to review.  I think the quality  of the products is excellent.  The umbrella is large, has a sturdy handle and features a spring-loaded button so that it will pop open on command.   For $30, I thought the Däv umbrella was definitely worth the price.  I recently purchased an umbrella from Target for $15 which broke after just 3 uses.

The boots are constructed with durable materials and were quite warm and comfortable when I wore them.  I would also say that the sizing it true-to-size.  Further, the boots came with a black nylon backpack to store them in.Dav flats

Con’s:  Really I didn’t feel that there were any cons.

Bottom Line:  Däv offers a wide variety of stylish rain gear at a broad range of prices.  If the $90 rain boots are out of your budget, you can opt for an adorable pair of leopard print ballerina flats like these for only $29.99.

All I can say is, I can’t wait for the next rainy day.

Visit DavRain.com to purchase the items seen here or click on the retailer tab to find a store near you.

Clever Idea—Rollasole

rollasole shoes copy

So you’re out boogieing the night away in your killer heels, you look hot, but you’re not sure after abusing your feet all day—and now night—how your are going to make it home, unless it’s barefoot.

Enter, Rollasole.

It’s one of those, “Why didn’t I think of that?” sort of inventions.  A UK businessman came up with the idea to stock nightclubs with vending machines that offer rolled ballet slipper-style shoes to get you home in comfort and rest your weary soles.

They are around $11 US dollars and according to NBC Nightly News, are popping up in many UK nightclubs.  Rollasole’s come in a range of colors from gold, silver, black—and their seemingly most popular, because they are sold out—pink.

During my swinging single days, there were many a night where I walked home barefoot, dangling my heels from my fingertips.  I can imagine women buying shoes like these following an evening full of libation and hours of being propped up in their heels.  Can’t you?

No word as to when they are coming to the US, but you can click here to find out more information.

P.S. They do ship to the US.

Choo’s 4 All!

jimmy-choo-400x300

H&M

Great news for shoe lovers!  H&M is collaborating with Jimmy Choo to design an exclusive collection for the discount retailer.  The luxe shoes which normally sell for $500 or more, will be up for grabs (and I’m sure there will be a few catfights to get your hands on these babies) for only $60-$200.

What’s more, included in the Jimmy Choo collection are men’s shoes, accessories, bags and even clothes.  So mark your calendars for November 14th and get your running shoes ready.  The mad dash for Jimmy Choo will be a great warm up for the after Thanksgiving sales the following week. “The Letter” Rages On, Spawning “Cosmosexuals”…

Earlier this week, I wrote about the now infamous letter penned by Vogue UK editor Alexandra Shulman and her criticism to the fashion industry for supplying the fashion tome with clothing so tiny that the magazine is forced into using tiny models and later photo shopping their pictures to look heavier.

This has caused quite a buzz on the internet.

Now, columnist Kevin Meyers of Independent Ireland, is coining a new phrase to describe the designers who are promoting the emaciated “New Woman”, he’s calling them “Cosmosexuals”.

Almost no designers of women’s clothes are women. Most are male Cosmosexuals — who are either homosexuals, such as Yves St Laurent, Christian Dior or Gianni Versace, or more ambiguous denizens of the Cosmosphere, such as Gaultier, Lagerfeld and Valentino. Hardly any designers for women are simply straightforward heterosexual men. Tommy Hilfiger and Paul Costelloe clearly love women as they are. Which is why their clothes celebrate women’s carnality, their sexuality and the sheer exuberant bodiness of the female form.

This cannot be said of gay designerdom: Versace, St Laurent, Dior, or of their Cosmosexual peers. Together, they have redesigned the female body to suit their own demented needs. This ambition is very 20th century, and echoes the earlier schemes of Marxists and National Socialists, to create The New Man. Except, the Cosmosexual project is to create The New Woman — and what do you know: she looks just like a teenage boy (emphasis mine). [Independent.ie]

Meyers believes that when we look back to this time in history,  Shulman’s letter will be regarded as “that point where history turned”.  I certainly hope so.

A Fit Revolution

With the revolution brewing in the fashion industry, I believe we will have another woman to thank; her name is Cricket Lee.  She has taken on the industry to standardize fit through her Fitlogic technology.

Imagine being able to walk into a store and buying a pair of pants that fit your exact body shape and size without having to try on dozens of styles.  Click here for a post I wrote about her crusade on our behalf.   This is a cause that we can all rally behind!

Birmingham Magazine

Hi guys, awhile ago I mentioned that I had the opportunity to do some styling work for a local magazine here in Michigan.  Doing a photo shoot is a lot of work, but incredibly enjoyable.  Imagine how fun it would be to go to some of the best boutiques in the state and have your pick of the store.  At one boutique alone, I borrowed approximately $7,000 worth of merchandise.  If only it was mine to keep…

Birmingham Mag 6.09

The topic of my assignment was to style a summer swimsuit page.  I started with this beautiful teal colored asymmetrical bikini and was thrilled after shopping several stores, to finally find the perfect dress to be worn as a beach cover up.  What’s striking about the dress, is the flexibility in dressing it up or down; you could go straight from the pool to a nice restaurant without feeling self-conscious at all.

You may not be able to see the type, but the silver sandals are Valentino and they were amazing.  Too bad this stylist doesn’t have the budget to pay the $675 to buy them…

Here is an alternate page that I styled for the magazine.  This pool side look includes a bikini that will definitely draw a second look with it’s trendy animal print and bold jeweled embellishments.

I was absolutely over-the-moon for these Lanvin sandals; falling in love with the pink bow.  I think these sandals may be a Tender (the name of the boutique) exclusive.  I looked everywhere online and could not find the exact same pair.  The price on these covetable catwalkers you ask?  $995.

Thanks guys for letting me share!

Louis Vuitton Sells Scraps As Art?

46446581

Photo: STEFANO PALTERA, FOR THE LA TIMES

Louis Vuitton is in some hot water with a man who purchased $12,000 worth of what he thought was limited edition art, two years ago by artist Takashi Murakami.  It turns out, that the prints were merely scraps of leather mounted as art.  Now he is suing LV which could possibly cost the company 12 million dollars.  Read more at latimes.com.

Eco-Friendly Shoes

April welcomes Earth Day 2009 and lucky for us, eco-friendly products have come a long way.  Last year, I wrote a story for the online shoe magazine Running With Heels called Earth Day & Eco Shoes and I have to admit, while I found some really lovely shoes, the majority of shoes available were geared more for comfort, rather than style.

This year, with the demand for eco-friendly products increasing, the selection of innovative and stylish shoes has grown and I found some fantastic eco-friendly shoes that you will covet for  your own collection.
